Present Water Status:

In developing country like India still the dependency of economy is on Agriculture. But a strong shift is creating the new face of India as the industry based economy.

At present

In all our population is 17% of the World’s population & 20% of the livestock population & with 4% of the world’s water available to us, already declared the water stressed country.

In present condition majority of the micro-irrigation is on ground water with the water sources like open well & bore well. Most of the Irrigation on the surface water with the water sources like river & dams are on flood Irrigation. Hence there are maximum water losses while using the surface water for Irrigation. The need is there to explore micro-irrigation with surface water like Canal water, River water etc.

Importance

The average land holding in India is 1.08 Ha which is very less & the average irrigated land is 35%. Considering annual availability of ground water of 490 bcm, we have done the micro-irrigation of up to 20%. But the micro-irrigation done on surface Irrigation irrespective of its annual availability of 633 bcm, is less than 1% in India.

Types of Micro-Irrigation with Surface Irrigation:

  • Individual Micro-Irrigation with Farm Pond
  • Community Irrigation

Individual Micro-Irrigation with Farm Pond

Here in command area farmers are preferring to go with farm ponds storing the water as per the canal water interval. Let the canal interval is on monthly basis, then for 1Ha of sugarcane with drip Irrigation, farmer needs the farm pond with the storage capacity of 15 to 18 Lak liters (1500 to 1800 m3 Pond). Considering the average depth of 10m, the area needed for the farm pond is from 150 to 180 m2. Here the trend of small farm pond is increasing. In many areas, govt. is also offering the subsidy for making of the farm pond also.

Community Irrigation

Govt. now a days is serious on making the community Irrigation schemes on river water & dam water. Here a project with project from up to any ha can be done. It needs a proper planning. The preparation of detailed project Report (DPR). It needs the approval from the concerned authorities.

Very few companies like Kothari Irrigation having the project & automation Department with highest product range have the capacity to execute such projects.

More & more such projects of community irrigation is going to change the face of India with another green revolution. In many areas, a village level Irrigation projects have been implemented with Jack-well made at riverside to make the efficient use of river water for Irrigation.
