History

The application of water artificially to the crops is called Irrigation. Irrigation has prominent historical pieces of evidence right from the Indus Valley Civilization in the 3300 BCE to 1300 BC, and even in its mature stages from 2600 BC to 1900 BC also in the 4500 BC. For a long period, Irrigation in Agriculture was only possible with the help of gravity, by allowing the water to flow from a high altitude region to a low altitude area.

After the invention of Cement Pipes, GI Pipes the water loss due to evaporation was relatively cut down. A breakthrough in Irrigation Systems in Agriculture was after 1766, when a power-operated water pump was invented. However, the development in the Irrigation Sector mainly took place in the last 100 years with the invention of PVC Pipes, HDPE Pipes, high head pumps, etc.

Concept

Lift irrigation uses Lift Irrigation Systems for transporting water from low levels to higher levels with the help of Water pumps & Pipes that are produces by Kothari Group Irrigation Manufacturers & Suppliers in India. In the initial stages, water was pumped to the highest possible altitude & then distributed using gravity with the help of man-made channels.

Progress of Lift Irrigation

In the initial stages, the farmers riverside, carried out Lift Irrigation individually or in combination. This was possible within the periphery of 4 to 5 kms and the pipe size was limited up to 5” to 6”. Succeeding the development of high head pumps & larger diameter PVC & HDPE Pipes, the secondary pumping unit arrangement came into existence for performing Lift Irrigation up to extra lengths.

Now-a-days, through cluster approach Lift Irrigation System along with Drip Irrigation System from Kothari Group Irrigation Manufacturers & Suppliers in India, it is possible to irrigate a single village or combination of villages. Cluster Approach is also used to develop the community Drip Irrigation Systems along with Lift Irrigation Systems. In India, Drip Irrigation entirely took place with the help of underground water. But now, times have changed and farmers store canal water in small farm ponds and use the same for Drip Irrigation.

Lift Irrigation Technology

It includes a GPS detailed survey to know the shortest path and static level difference. The Lift Irrigation System Design and Management from Kothari Group Lift Irrigation System Manufacturers & Suppliers in India, includes finding the maximum water requirement, the dynamic head, and location of the protection Valves like continuous acting Air valves, Non-return valves, etc. All these parameters are crafted in a single Length-Head Diagram called the ‘L-section’.

  • Pumping Unit: It lifts water from one level to another level. The option of installing Jack-well is also used at many places to have a safe Pumping house.
  • Supply Pipeline: The size of this pipeline has been decided as per the final maximum water requirement depending on the area, crops to grow, etc.
  • Protection Valves: They are proper sized continually operating Air Valves, NRV are needed at proper locations as technically suggested.
  • Distribution Line in the field: The proper design for this Distribution Line needs to have total irrigation of the field. The chambers are kept at locations on the higher side to cover maximum of the area with gravity.
Few Important points
  • Since, this is a one-time investment the total planning of a Lift Irrigation System should be done with a technical person or company having adequate experience in this field like Kothari Group Lift Irrigation System Manufacturers and Supplier in India. It should not be done on an individual level.
  • The wrong pump HP pipeline size can lead to a bigger loss.
  • The wrong placement of Air valves & NRV can cause a water hammer, leading to the pipeline damage.
  • The depth of pipes laid should not be less than 1 meter to avoid the damage of the pipeline due to any reason.
  • Most of the path of the pipeline should be along the roadside to facilitate continuous inspection & repair work.
  • Kothari Group Lift Irrigation Manufacturers and Suppliers in India have dedicated teams in the development of Lift Irrigation Systems & they have developed unique Rubber Ring Repair Coupler & solved farmer’s pipeline leakage problem.
