Importance of Greenhouse

The factors like temperature, Wind, Rainfall, humidity plays very important role in crop growth. Changing of one of the factors can resulted in huge changes in the crop yield. There were many researches before shaping of the present modern structure of the greenhouse which is controlling the majority of the above factors required as per the crop growth.

The impact of this controlled environment which is favorable for the crop growth along with the excessive amount of carbondixide available for the photosynthesis. This results in the maximum crop yield compared with the open field crops.

Requirement of Temperature Reduction in Greenhouse

Due to the increasing open field temperature, most of the crop yield hampers. Even with the Greenhouse, the inner temperature remains high due to CO2 & sometimes it is more than the outside temperature.

Systems for Temperature Reduction

Temperature is one of the important factors which needs to control in greenhouses. There are two basic types of systems for temperature reduction in greenhouses

  • Fan-Pad Arrangement
  • Fogging System

Use of Foggers for temperature Reduction

Foggers plays very important role in greenhouses for the temperature reduction. Usually those used in greenhouses are 4 way foggers as shown in figure.

Technology

The Foggers are kept at 3 meter height. The hot air is in the upper side of greenhouse since it is light in weight. The droplet size is 50 to 60 microns which evaporates in the air before reaching to the ground. While evaporating it uses its energy to cool the air around it. The cooled air become heavy & come down & the downside air which is now comparatively hot goes to the top side of the greenhouse. Thus it cools the total greenhouse. The K-Foggers (4 Way) can cool the greenhouse up to 10 to 15 degrees compared with the outside temperature & also increase the necessary humidity in the Greenhouse.

Operation of K-Fogger (4 Way) in Greenhouse

  • It is installed in Greenhouse at 3m x 3m spacing.
  • There are two types of Nozzles Blue & Green with the flow rate of 22 & 30 LPH respectively at 4 Kg/cm2 operating pressure.
  • Depending upon the increase in day temperature, Fogging system can be started from 10 am up to 5 pm.
  • Here each cycle can be of 1 minute in 10 minutes or 1 minute in 15 minutes.
  • There is already separate drip system for irrigation in greenhouses. It is strongly recommended to kept separate pumping system & storage for fogging, since it is a high pressure operation.
  • Also the operating of fogging system should be automated, without any manual interference which can on & off the system as per the recommandations. An Economical Galcon AC-6S can also play good role even if farmer do not wants to go for total automation.
  • The LPD device prevents low head discharge of water

Advantages

Most economical & effective way of temperature reduction compared with Fan-Pad system It can reduce the temperature up to 10 to 15 degrees compared with the outside temp.

Limitations

Needs proper periodic maintenance to maintain the system. It is not useful to that extent if the humidity level is more than 90%
