An Automation Irrigation System is the operation of an Agricultural Irrigation System with minimum or no manual intervention. The only manual intervention would be for the purpose of surveillance.

  • All Irrigation Systems can be made automation with the help of timers, sensors, computers and mechanical appliances like Automation Drip Irrigation Systems for agriculture, Automation Sprinkler Irrigation systems, Automation Surface Drip Irrigation Systems and Automation Sub-Surface Irrigation Systems.
  • Automation makes the irrigation process very efficient which gives the farmers more time to focus on others essential farming tasks.
  • There are three types of Automation/Automation Irrigation Systems based on command:

      Real Time Basis
    • Here, the Electric Solenoid Valves are used which divide the field in different parts on the basis of maximum available flow.
    • Those valves are directly connected to the central controller with the help of electric cables or wireless connection through DC Solenoid valves which requires a DC controller.
    • We can design the operation of each valve with a fixed timing on the basis of the type of crop and its age with the help of a controller. The controller operates the valves according to the designed programs.
    • Some controllers can continue operating with fixed timings even after sudden shutting down due to load-shedding, and ensures the Valve operation timing as per the designed program.
    • Volumetric Basis
    • Here, the system is designed as it is in Real time basis with the addition of Water meter to the mainline immediately after the Header unit.
    • The water meter ensures pre-fixed flow to each valve with the help of a controller.
    • The turning on & off of the Solenoid valves is on the basis of the volume of water that is applied to the crop.
    • It is a more accurate system as compared to the automation in the Real time basis operation.
    • Moisture Sensor based
    • The drip system is designed to keep the soil around the root zone at field capacity for 24 hours. The electronic moisture sensors are fixed at root zone depth in the soil which is directly connected to the controller of the system ensuring the water application as per the requirement of the crop.
    • They operate on Hydraulic Pressure, where spray heads Pop-up on the ground for Irrigation and go back in when done.
  • There is a low-tech principle too which is the use of Clay Pots and porous Capsule Irrigation Network
